HFMA · CHFP & CRCR Certification

The seat at the strategy table is a finance seat.

The CHFP and CRCR are how healthcare finance professionals prove they can run the business — not just report on it. Start with a free practice quiz and find out exactly where you stand before you spend a dollar or an evening studying.

The quiz is free, takes minutes, and scores you live. No login, no credit card.

Why certify

Why CHFP and CRCR move finance careers.

Healthcare finance is where margin meets mission — and the leaders who can speak both languages get the bigger rooms. HFMA's credentials are the recognized way to prove it.

Credibility beyond the spreadsheet

The CHFP signals that you understand the full business of health care — payment models, risk, capital, cost structures — not just the close calendar. It's the difference between presenting the numbers and shaping the decision.

The revenue cycle standard

The CRCR has become the baseline credential inside revenue cycle teams — many organizations certify entire departments. If you work the revenue cycle, it's the fastest way to stand out inside it.

A signal sponsors understand

Promotion committees and CFOs know what these letters mean. Certification is one of the few career moves that's visible on paper, durable on a resume, and commonly reimbursable under professional development.

Diagnose before you study.

One honest note: HFMA bundles its certifications into membership, so the exam itself runs through hfma.org. The smart first move costs nothing — take the free practice quiz, see your real baseline, and decide from evidence instead of anxiety.

The prep platform

Scenario practice, oriented to the real exam.

The CHFP doesn't test recall — it tests judgment across the business of health care. The platform at hfmaprep.thedutchmentor.com trains exactly that, with scenario-based questions and full reasoning on every option.

Oriented to Module I

The Business of Health Care

The financial ecosystem you're being tested on — and the one you work in every day:

  • Payment models and how risk actually moves
  • Cost, capital, and margin concepts in context
  • The stakeholders, incentives, and regulations that shape the numbers
Oriented to Module II

Operational Excellence

Where the exam separates readers from operators — applying the knowledge:

  • Case-style scenarios that mirror exam format
  • Operational decisions argued option by option
  • Why the right answer wins and each distractor loses

Your mentor

Built by an executive who has owned the P&L.

Walter Dusseldorp, MBA, FACHE is a hospital executive with 30 years in healthcare leadership, including responsibility for $645M+ service lines — which means the budgets, payment models, and operational trade-offs on the CHFP blueprint are the same ones he has defended in real boardrooms. He mentors finance professionals on the CHFP track the same way he coaches FACHE candidates: scenarios first, judgment over memorization.

Questions

What finance professionals ask first.

What's the difference between CHFP and CRCR?
Both are HFMA credentials, aimed at different seats. The CHFP (Certified Healthcare Financial Professional) is the broad finance-leadership credential — it covers the business of health care end to end and signals you can operate at the strategy table. The CRCR (Certified Revenue Cycle Representative) is focused on revenue cycle operations and is often pursued team-wide inside revenue cycle departments. If you lead or aspire to lead a finance function, CHFP is usually the target; if you live in the revenue cycle, start with CRCR.
How do I actually get certified — don't I need HFMA membership?
Yes — HFMA bundles its certifications into membership, so you sit the CHFP through HFMA itself, and current membership and exam terms live at hfma.org. That's exactly why this page leads with the free practice quiz: find out where you stand before you commit to the membership-and-exam path. Our prep platform trains you for the exam; HFMA administers it.
What does the prep platform cover?
Scenario-based practice questions oriented to the CHFP's two modules: Module I, The Business of Health Care (the financial ecosystem, payment models, cost and capital concepts), and Module II, Operational Excellence (applying that knowledge to real operational decisions). The emphasis is judgment in context — the way the exam actually tests you — not flashcard recall.
How much does the prep platform cost?
Pricing is currently under review, so we're not quoting a number that might be wrong next month. The practice quiz is free and always will be. Take it first; if you want the full platform, the current terms are shown at hfmaprep.thedutchmentor.com — or grab the Field Manual above and you'll hear when pricing is settled.
